SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio is currently 19% above the national average when it comes to "car insurance rates". Why is that? The national average for car insurance sits at just over $2500 per year, but in San Antonio, it's even higher at over $3000.It's really a factor of a few key things...increased costs for vehicles...increased costs of parts...the supply chain challenges that we've had...the increase in natural disasters and weather events...the increase in legal liability and runaway verdicts.
Today, we spoke with, Kevin Witcher, the Chief Operating Officer for Insurance Services at SWBC, he said we're not able to do anything about many of those factors, but did say there are some simple things people can do to keep their insurance costs under control. Safe driving is definitely part of it. A good driving record is the biggest part you can probably influence," he said, "also just consider not turning in insignificant claims like windshields or towing or things that are really more transactional, that are thrown in with the policy but that could really damage your insurance score.Pay your premium in full for a discount.
