October is usually one of the wettest months but maybe not this year because an emerging La Niña could bring drier and warmer weather to South Texas.
On the final day of September in the Alamo City , we witnessed temperatures soaring into the upper 90s, rivaling the previous daily heat record of 96 degrees set in 2019. Despite transitioning into a new month, the weather will remain consistently unseasonably warm but with comfortable nights and no rain. Tuesday’s temperatures might again approach the previous record high, this time the Oct. 1 daily record high of 97 degrees set in 1989.
This change may lead to a few clouds and small rain chances over the upcoming weekend. If it materializes, it will be the first measurable rainfall since early September. In San Antonio, September is normally our region’s second wettest month of the year after May, averaging about 4 inches of rain for the month. However, this past September defied expectations and this year we only received 1.46 inches of rain, coming up short of normal by about 2.5 inches.
