A grad of the North East School of the Arts, Jones had a starring role in 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead,' and is now working on Season 3 of 'Bel-Air.'

North East School of the Arts alum Simone Joy Jones has been on a path toward a career in entertainment since she was a kid — she made her Broadway debut at 9 — but a teacher’s advice briefly gave her pause. “I came home from school one time, and I was like, 'My teacher said 'You need a Plan B ,' ” Jones said in a telephone interview as she was on her way to an audition. “And my mom was like, 'No, you don’t. You give your everything to your Plan A and then you see what happens.

“She’d get up in front of our church, with over 1,000 and sometimes 2,000 people, and sing a song, and you would think it was a recording and she was lip-syncing, but it was always her voice. She had a really strong, strong voice at that age.” She spent much of her childhood in North Carolina. Her parents would take her to New York and elsewhere to audition, and she won the role of one of Helen Keller’s playmates in the 2010 Broadway staging of “The Miracle Worker” starring Abigail Breslin.
