Samuel Goldberg, former fiance of Ellen Greenberg, has broken his silence nearly 14 years after her death, reiterating that she took her own life by stabbing herself. He criticizes those who claim it was homicide, including Greenberg's parents, and emphasizes the reality of mental illness.

At the time of her death, the 27-year-old first-grade teacher from Harrisburg was seeing a psychiatrist and being medically treated for anxiety. By assuming suicide in the Ellen’s death, police did not treat the bloodied apartment as a crime scene that evening. The unit at the Venice Loft Condominiums was left unsealed when investigators departed, and it was cleaned and sanitized the next day.
It has remained so ever since, spawning one of the Greenberg’s court cases that’s expected to be argued before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in early 2025. Meanwhile, a judge’s decision on whether the Greenberg’s second lawsuit, which alleges the coverup, can proceed to trial is due on Jan. 31, 2025.
“It’s very curious. I don’t why,” Sandee said. “Why all of a sudden was this the time for Sam to speak out?”Joshua Greenberg was more direct in his criticism of the comments, suggesting to a PennLive reporter the emailed response was written for Goldberg or that he had been “coached.” Citing the 11 bruises in various stages of healing on Ellen’s body noted in the autopsy report – and even more the Greenberg’s say are visible in autopsy photos – Joshua Greenberg said he believes his daughter was being abused and that this is linked to her homicide.
Early Monday, PennLive left detailed messages seeking additional comment from Goldberg on his cellphone and at his email address but as of this publication, he didn’t respond.
