Samsung has shown off a stretchable display that’s capable of physically bulging out of a flat surface. The stretchable screen was just one of a range of bending, bulging and brighter displays that the company is showing off at CES in Las Vegas.
The most eye-catching display among the dozens shown at a behind-the-scenes briefing for journalists at CES was the stretchable Micro-LED display, which warps from a flat surface to a bulging fisheye-like shape, before returning to a completely flat plane. It’s not clear what practical purpose the stretchable screens will serve, but there were plenty more flexible displays in Samsung’s line-up that do have a clear use case. For example, the company also showed off bendable screens that can wrap around the dashboard of a car, with the screen curving to suit the contours of the interior design.One such dashboard display included Samsung’s Flex Magic Pixel technology, which can mask parts of the screen depending on the viewing angle. In a car, this could be used to hide distracting entertainment displays from the driver while passengers are able to see information such as music playlists or calendar alerts, for example.It’s rapidly becoming clear at CES 2025 that OLED is now the default screen technology for new laptops, tablets and other devices, and Samsung continues to push the boundaries of OLED technology with new products launched at the show.
