New developments with Samsung's Exynos 2600 chip suggest a brighter future for the processor's potential inclusion in next year's Galaxy S25 series. This could lead to a unification of the chipset used across all regional models, ending the previous practice of using Qualcomm's Snapdragon in some markets and Exynos in others.
Samsung 's development of the Exynos 2600 chip is progressing better than their previous Exynos 2500 effort. This positive development could pave the way for next year's flagship Galaxy S25 series phones to feature the Exynos 2600 processor, potentially ending the regional split where some models received Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips while others used Exynos. The Exynos 2500 faced significant manufacturing challenges, achieving a mere 20% yield rate in mid-2024.
This low yield made it difficult to mass-produce the chip, leading to limitations in equipping all flagship models with it. However, the 2nm Exynos 2600 processor has reportedly achieved a yield rate exceeding 30% in test production. This improvement, occurring at the beginning of the year, indicates a promising outlook for Samsung's ability to leverage the Exynos 2600 in their flagship devices. Previously, Samsung implemented a regional strategy for its flagship models. Phones sold in the United States, Canada, China, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan received Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips, while the rest of the world got Exynos-powered devices. Although the performance difference between the two chipsets wasn't substantial, it sparked debate among users questioning the rationale behind this regional distinction. The potential use of the Exynos 2600 in all Galaxy S25 models could address this issue. Moreover, Samsung's decision to maintain the prices of the S25 phones despite the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite's price increase this year suggests a desire to avoid any backlash from price-sensitive consumers
