Samsung says hackers can gain access to your phone by simply sending an image with hidden malicious code. Here's how Samsung Message Guard aims to block zero-click exploits starting with the Galaxy S23.

feature which aims to protect Samsung Galaxy users from hidden threats. While most tech-savvy users are aware not to click on random links sent from strangers, cybercriminals are finding new ways to steal your personal data without requiring any action from the user.

Known as Zero-click exploits, this new kind of cyberattack can occur when a device receives an image with a hidden malicious code. Even without touching your phone, the malicious code could be reading your messages, accessing your photos or even copying your online banking details. According to Samsung, there has been no sign of such an attack on Samsung Galaxy devices but they have taken a preemptive step by introducing Samsung Message Guard.

According to the Korean smartphone maker, Samsung Message Guard is a sandbox that acts like a virtual quarantine. When an image is received, it is trapped and isolated from the rest of the device to prevent malicious code from accessing your files and the device’s operating system. The feature will then check the file and process it in a controlled environment so that it won’t infect the rest of your phone.
