Samsung Electronics plans to increase its on-device AI capabilities, anticipating that its consumer electronics division will outperform the overall global market growth this year. The world's leading manufacturer of smartphones and televisions projects a 4-5% growth for its mobile devices business in 2023, while growth in the TV and home appliances segment is anticipated to accelerate.
Samsung CEO Jong-Hee Han stated that the global consumer electronics market for smartphones, televisions, and home appliances is estimated to expand by approximately 3% in 2025. Han, who also heads Samsung Electronics' Device eXperience (DX) division, emphasized that the company aims to differentiate its products through enhanced security and convenience rather than price reductions, as competition from Chinese companies is viewed as beneficial for both Samsung and consumers. Samsung, which was once the leading force in the memory chip sector, has fallen behind SK Hynix in the race to supply high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, crucial components for AI leader Nvidia.
