Sambo Motors Group showcases its latest UAM innovation, the HAM III-2, a two-seater hybrid aircraft designed for short-haul urban commutes. Featuring a dual power system and impressive performance specs, the HAM III-2 aims to redefine urban transportation.
South Korea’s Sambo Motors Group revealed its latest breakthrough in urban air mobility (UAM) technology with the world premiere of HAM III-2 . This two-seater hybrid aircraft represents a significant leap forward in the UAM sector, surpassing its predecessor, the HAM III-1, in size, performance, and technological sophistication. The HAM III-2 , designed to accommodate multiple passengers, features an impressive wingspan of 9 meters, a height of 4.5 meters, and a weight of 850 kilograms.
With its hybrid powertrain, the aircraft is set to redefine the standards for fuel efficiency and flight safety in the growing UAM market. 'Given its range and flight time, it will be suitable for military purposes, messenger and commercial purposes. In the future, it’s going to be for commercial, like, city to city or point-to-point taxis,' a company rep told. One of the HAM III-2’s standout features is its dual power system. During vertical takeoff, the aircraft relies solely on battery power, reducing noise and emissions. Once airborne, it transitions to hydrogen-powered fuel cells for horizontal flight, a move that minimizes the reliance on heavy onboard batteries. This innovative design addresses key challenges in UAM development, balancing energy efficiency with performance. The aircraft is equipped with four horizontal propellers for vertical lift and two large rear-mounted propellers for forward motion. This configuration enables it to achieve a cruising speed of 112 mph, a range of up to 62 miles, and a flight endurance of 40 minutes, making it an ideal solution for short-haul urban commutes. Sambo Motors is gearing up for a series of rigorous flight tests in the United States in early 2025. The hydrogen fuel cell tests will be conducted in the, offering the company a chance to assess the aircraft’s capabilities in various climate conditions. Key maneuvers such as ascent, descent, and turning will be evaluated to validate its performance and safety feature
