Country singer Sam Hunt was arrested in Tennessee for speeding and violating an interlock device. He was released on bond and will not face charges, according to his representatives. This arrest follows a 2019 DUI incident where Hunt was charged with two misdemeanor DUI counts.
Hunt, 40, was taken to a Tennessee jail on January 20, TMZ reported on Wednesday, January 29. According to the outlet, Hunt was released the same day on a $1,500 bond. A rep for the country singer told TMZ on Wednesday that Hunt won’t be charged for the incident and will pay his speeding ticket.
The arrest came more than five years after the “Body Like a Back Road” artist was taken into custody for a DUI after driving down the road the wrong way in Nashville circa November 2019. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor DUI charges in August 2021, and was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail including DUI first offense and DUI per se, Us Weekly confirmed at the time. “When officers got behind the vehicle the driver had difficulty staying in the lane of travel and crossed the center divide several times before a stop was initiated,” a police report stated following Hunt’s 2019 arrest. “Once the stop was initiated and contact made, there was an obvious odor consistent with alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant as well as red bloodshot and watery eyes.” The musician’s blood alcohol content had been .173 while the legal limit is .08, according to the arrest warrant. A few hours later, Hunt was released on $2,500 bond. The crooner apologized for his actions the following day via social media. “Thursday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville,” he tweeted. “It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it.”Hunt is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter best known for hits such as “Take Your Time,” “House Party,” “Hard to Forget” and “Outskirts.” In 2017, Hunt married Hannah Lee Fowler, who was also the inspiration behind his Montevallo album, after dating on and off for nearly a decade. The pair briefly separated in 2022, with Fowler citing “inappropriate marital conduct” and “adultery” in her divorce docs, which were filed while she was pregnant with their first child. The couple later reconciled, and withdrew their divorce papers before welcoming daughter Lucy Louise in May 2022 and son Lowry Lee in October 2023. They announced in November 2024 that they're expecting a third child.
