Sam Heughan, the star of Starz's hit time-travel drama 'Outlander,' took home more than just memories from the final day of filming. Heughan revealed that he 'stole' several items belonging to his character, Jamie Fraser, including his boots, kilt, jacket, hat, wig, and even a prosthetic scar. He spoke about the emotional rollercoaster of wrapping up the long-running series, highlighting the mix of sadness and celebration.
Outlander is coming to an end with its eighth season. While the final season hasn't premiered yet and the release date remains unknown, filming has officially wrapped. Series star Sam Heughan has bid farewell to his role as Jamie Fraser, and he did so with a few souvenirs from the set. Heughan, 44, revealed on the last day of filming that he took home a number of items belonging to his character. 'I did steal some things, but I was gifted a full Jamie Fraser,' he explained.
'So I have his boots, his kilt, his jacket, his hat and wig.' He even took one of the prosthetic scars he wore on his back, representing Jamie's scars from being whipped in his youth. And with the entire costume set, Heughan jokingly added, 'I suppose if I ever needed to, I could present a full Jamie in my house – if I’m ever missing him that much.' Outlander premiered in 2014, and Heughan has portrayed Jamie Fraser for 11 years and over 100 episodes. The show chronicles the decades-long love story of Jamie and time-traveling nurse Claire (Caitriona Balfe), as they navigate through wars, pirates, political turmoil, witch hunts, separations, murder attempts, and more. Heughan often endearingly referred to Claire as 'sassenach' due to her English heritage. When asked about other items he 'stole' from the set, Heughan playfully declined to specify. 'Nothing special. Nothing big. There’s a few things where, just as I was leaving, I felt a little bit emboldened and was like, 'I’m going to take that with me!' he joked. Heughan admitted that describing the emotions on the final day of filming was difficult. 'It was a long time coming. We obviously knew we were in the last season, so the whole season was hard to shoot,' he shared. 'You had moments where you were very aware of it, and other times where it’s just another day on set. The last day, let’s just say there were a lot of tears and celebration.' He added, 'It’s been a great achievement. I’m lucky I got some great friendships out of that, and it has a great legacy – 101 episodes for people to watch.
