A forgotten sci-fi installment from more than two decades ago starring Sam Elliott is finding new success in 2026. After opening in theaters on June 20, 2003, Ang Lee's Hulk movie is now surging on the streaming charts worldwide on HBO Max.
In a new report from FlixPatrol, the Eric Bana-starring Marvel adventure is currently trending at #4 in Serbia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Hulk movie from Lee, which featured Elliott as Marvel's Thunderbolt Ross, ranks #3 on HBO Max in Slovakia and #5 in Hungary. In addition, the superhero entry is surging to #7 on the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streaming platform in the Czech Republic, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, and Poland. While it is available on HBO Max internationally, 2003's Hulk can be rented via video-on-demand in the United States. The film's sudden streaming surge comes amid Hollywood's readjustment of the superhero genre, both within the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline and with James Gunn's DC Universe. Although Hulk received mixed reviews, the movie grossed $245.3 million worldwide on a reported $137 million budget. A sequel was initially going to happen, but Universal Pictures ended up doing a reboot, while also setting it within the MCU, as Ed Norton took over the role in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. However, like Bana, Norton had only one outing as the iconic Marvel hero; Mark Ruffalo replaced him in 2012's The Avengers, and has been with the franchise ever since. While he won't be getting a solo Hulk movie anytime soon, the MCU veteran will be back this summer in Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Currently, Hulk has a 63% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 238 submitted reviews. Audience members, on the other hand, have a very different response to the 2003 film, with a 29% rating on the Popcornmeter.
