Mike Maughn, representing Smith Entertainment Group, said, "We at Smith Entertainment Group want Abravanel Hall on site.""There’s been a lot of deferred maintenance that would require over hundreds of millions of dollars to fix," Maughn said. "And so, I think both are being considered by the county: either a rebuild or a renovation."
In addition to the proposed plan's impact on existing structures, council members wanted to understand how much money the potential tax increase would create, and where that money would go. Ahead of her budget presentation to the council, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall emphasized her support.
