The cast will be made up of relative newcomers. Known only for her role inwill star as the precocious Marianne, who morphs from a brilliant outcast in her small hometown in western Ireland to the centre of attention as a privileged Dublin undergraduate. Meanwhile, Paul Mescal will make his screen debut as Connell, the popular son of Marianne’s family’s cleaner who finds himself out of his depth at Trinity College.
will premiere on BBC Three and also air on BBC One and Hulu in 2020, but no specific date has been set. Initial stills show stars Daisy Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal both in the early days of their intense friendship at school in Sligo, and later as students at Trinity College Dublin, where their connection endures even through their very different experiences of navigating young adult life.
