Four campuses in the district are at risk of being overwhelmed by Texas’ back-to-school hot weather.

San Antonio Independent School District, struggling to cool some of its aging buildings in the waning days of summer, has informed parents it might have to relocate some students after fall classes begin Tuesday to avoid interruptions in learning. Specifically, the district identified four schools most at risk of having problems with air-conditioning: Bonham Academy , Cooper Academy at Navarro , Green Elementary at Riverside Park and Highland Hills Elementary .

” The district prefers parents allow students to be moved, if needed, to resume their classes. But parents will be given the option to pick their children up, Salzmann said. This is the first semester of the district “rightsizing” plan. Last year, the SAISD board approved closure of 15 schools over two years, along with three school mergers. Local committees have begun meeting to determine future use of vacated buildings that the district will repurpose based on neighborhood and community input.
