The New Orleans Saints got an unexpected boost going into Week 9, as Pope Francis somewhat bizarrely appeared to bless the team via a social media post.The official Twitter/X of the Pope, @Pontifex, which is followed by 18.5 million people and acts as the de facto social media voice of the leader of the Catholic Church recently posted a blessing that appeared to focus on the New Orleans team, much to the surprise and/or amusement of fans.

It is probably fair to assume that the 87-year-old Pope Francis does not directly handle posts on the official Vatican Twitter/X account, but that just makes it a bit more amusing to have slipped through. Compounding the weirdness of this all is that the post is still up and has not been deleted or corrected.As one might expect, numerous social media commentators immediately began using it as fodder to dunk on the Saints .
