The South African Human Rights Commission met Crawford International College representatives on Friday as part of its probe into a Pretoria substitute teacher's allegedly racist behaviour.
The SA Human Rights Commission has intervened following reports that a substitute teacher used racist language during a lesson at Crawford International College.She has since been dismissed.
The meeting follows the release of a video of the Grade 8 substitute English teacher writing racist terms on a whiteboard during a lesson. Pupils can be heard complaining about the teacher's conduct. The statement said the school immediately condemned the teacher's conduct and offered pupils, parents, the greater schooling community, and the rest of the country an apology for the hurt caused.
After Friday's talks, the SAHRC and Crawford College International broadly agreed that the SAHRC would assist through its advocacy mandate to conduct workshops on equality at the school in addition to the school's existing respect diversity inclusion programme.
