The store was going to close in January of this year, but kept operating to provide a “greater transition period” for the community in which it’s located, according to the representative. Safeway will re-assign employees at the Fillmore District store to another location in the San Francisco area and transfer the files of pharmacy customers to whatever other place they choose, according to the representative.They noted that Align Real Estate, which has been involved in plans to redevelop the site, is continuing to work with Safeway for a site that includes commercial retail and housing space.
