The city installed flashing stop signs at the intersection of 1000 East and 11000 South nearly two weeks after 40-year-old Josh Perry was struck and killed while walking in a crosswalk. Police stated that the driver, 50-year-old Carisa Blankenstein, had a blood alcohol level six times the legal limit at the time of the crash and has since been charged with automobile homicide.A small memorial now sits near the intersection in Perry’s honor, right under the newly installed flashing lights designed to alert drivers to slow down. Following Perry’s death, Karr gathered more than 1,000 signatures from residents demanding immediate safety changes and presented them to the Sandy City Council last week. “One of the things we asked for was immediate safety reform,” Karr said. “That’s what we’re seeing here.” Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski said the issue is personal for her, noting she lives nearby and regularly drives through the intersection.Mayor Zoltanski said the city is forming a working group, bringing in an outside traffic safety consultant, and gathering community feedback to determine long-term solutions. Possible future improvements include converting the intersection into a four-way traffic light or installing a roundabout. While the intersection was already slated for a major redesign before the fatal crash, the mayor said funding remains the main obstacle. Grant money will be needed to pay for larger infrastructure changes, and even the newly installed flashing lights cost about $1,500 each.“I think that’s how government works best,” Karr said. “When we partner with our friends and leaders and drive change together.”Connor McKell, a professional rodeo steer wrestler, is being held without bail in the Utah County Jail after being arrested on multiple felony charges, accordinAn employee with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office has been scheduled to appear in court after he was accused of playing cornhole without pants in his drivewayThe man convicted in the killing of 15-year-old Kiplyn Davis will be released from prison next month after serving 15 years for manslaughter, leaving her parentA mother’s search for her missing daughter ended in heartbreak after she learned the woman had died following a traffic collision, authorities said.Former KUTV 2News Chief Meteorologist Roland Steadham died in a plane crash near Emmett, Idaho, north of Boise. He and another person were on the plane Tuesday
