) - Residents of Montgomery’s District 2 had a chance Tuesday night to meet in person with their city council representative, raising concerns about neighborhood safety, city issues and future projects during a town hall hosted by Councilwoman Julie Beard.
For many who attended, the meeting offered an opportunity to ask questions directly and, they hoped, finally get answers. Beard said the goal of the town hall was to make sure residents feel heard and leave with a stronger sense of connection to their community. “I hope they walk away tonight with a sense of community, a sense of connection, that they can hear things tonight, that maybe they’ve asked questions they just can’t quite find the answers,” Beard said. “And hopefully tonight we’ll solve all those issues and concerns for them.” While residents brought a range of topics to the discussion, Beard said one of the biggest challenges for both city leaders and neighbors is patience, especially when it comes to infrastructure projects that can take years to complete. She pointed to projects like railroad crossings, which often involve legal steps and lengthy processes. “I think patience is the biggest obstacle because we think we can do something one day and it’s correct by the next day,” Beard said. “And often there’s a legal process and the city have to go through those legal processes.” Beard said those timelines can take weeks or even months, but she emphasized that maintaining communication with residents is her top priority. “I wanted them to make sure they had total access and that we stayed in lines of communication between myself and the residents and that I was easily accessible,” she said.“A lot of things are on the table right now,” Beard said. “I think safety is our top priority right now, and that’s the major concern.” Beard said she plans to continue hosting town halls throughout the year to give District 2 residents more opportunities to ask questions and stay connected. This year marks Beard’s third year in office. She said she has hosted 10 town hall meetings during that time.Pilot, copilot killed when jet collides with fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia AirportPolice seeking identity of Montgomery burglary suspectSafety concerns, city projects take center stage at Montgomery's District 2 town hall ‘She was more than a case in a courtroom’: Father of Aniah Blanchard feels ‘peace’ after her killer is found guilty
