According to an alert sent by the university around 9:15 p.m., four suspects approached a person at the METRO bus stop at University Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard. One of the suspects, armed with a silver semi-automatic pistol, demanded the victim’s phone. After the victim complied, the group fled the scene.

“I worry about my safety all the time,” said Aisha Freeman, a UH student. “I literally have pepper spray—I didn’t really feel the need to use it before, but you never know now. And that’s not OK. I’m glad they have more security, but I wish steps were taken before Friday.”“For the amount of money we pay in tuition, security should definitely be increased,” she said.

In response to the recent violence, a protest is scheduled for noon at Butler Plaza, where students and community members plan to demand stronger safety measures from university officials.T.J.
