San Antonio FC rallies late to salvage draw against Rio Grande Valley FC

As Rio Grande Valley FC was celebrating a second consecutive goal, San Antonio FC’s Mitchell Taintor and Connor Maloney rallied their teammates into a circle near the center of the field.
Tapping into the resilience and “mentality monsters” mantra that have been central to SAFC’s identity this season, San Antonio responded with goals from Gomez in the 59th minute and Taintor in the waning moments of stoppage time, recovering to record a 2-2 draw at Toyota Field. The result kept San Antonio FC at the top of the USL Championship standings, two points ahead of Louisville City FC.
Pinzon notched the assist on the Toros’ second strike less than two minutes later, sending a through pass that found Akeem Ward in the left side of the penalty area after a long run through the midfield. Ward used his body to shield off SAFC defender Saad Abdul-Salaam and chipped a sharp-angle shot from the edge of the box that slipped between Farr and the near post.
