SABC's request for closed parliamentary meeting raises ire of EFF, DA, media
A meeting between the SABC and Parliament will be partially closed on Wednesday. Both parties say the SABC is a publicly funded entity and does not operate like a private company.
"Of utmost importance, the SABC will give an account to the portfolio committee on its failure to overcome its financial challenges, resulting in a report of a staggering R1.1 billion loss in the financial year of 2022/23. "The EFF is opposed to this request in its entirety and views it as offensive to the people of South Africa, to whom the SABC belongs.
The PGA wrote to committee chairperson Boyce Maneli to place on record its concerns and asked for reasons for closing part of the meeting.
