KOTA KINABALU: From now on, Sabah is doing away the daily Covid-19 media statement and will only issue weekly Covid-19 updates scheduled every Monday.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam on Thursday however said that if there was an increase of cases or important announcement about new policies, a media statement would be released immediately without sticking to the weekly rule.

"Based on the current situation of Covid-19 in this state while transitioning towards the endemic phase, the state government through the cabinet meeting on Wednesday have decided to reduce the frequency of press release issuance from daily to weekly on Mondays. "This is in line with the Health Ministry’s reporting of the nation’s current Covid-19 situation in media statements on weekly basis.

"However, in case of a hike in cases, announcements on important information and new policies, the statement will be promptly released to the media without waiting for the one-week period," he said.
