Motorists have been warned to practice extreme caution on the roads.
The South African Weather Service issued a warning of severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours in parts of Johannesburg from 3pm on Monday. According to the weather service, the heavy rainfall is expected to stop at 5pm tonight.
“Severe thunderstorms are observed over the eastern parts of Johannesburg in the Kempton Park area, resulting in heavy downpours that could lead to localised flooding in places,” it warned.
