SA stars unite in Dubai to showcase the country’s diversity and aptitude
On Sunday, team South Africa showcased their talents with their offering at One Night with Mzansi and Content Showcase at the Dubai Opera. The expo was originally scheduled for October 2020 to April 2021, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Internationally-acclaimed presenter, actress and philanthropist Nomzamo Mbatha, who is now based in Los Angeles in the US, hosted the event with Thando Thabethe, who looked gorgeous in her black number, hosting the red carpet.One Night with Mzansi, which featured performances by local favourites – award-winning Afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond, the queen of Ndebele music Dr Nothembi Mkhwebane, DJ Maphorisa, Daliwonga and Ami Faku among others – was broadcast by MultiChoice.
Some of those in attendance included South Africa’s controversial media darling Khanyi Mbau, Pabi Moloi, Lunga Shabalala and Gomora’s Zolisa Xaluva.President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa and a representative of the SA Business Council were among those who gave speeches at the show.
Throughout the expo, team South Africa’s events will be carefully curated to expose the calibre of talent this country has.MultiChoice’s group non-executive chair Imtiaz Patel said: “MultiChoice has chosen this strategic direction as its contribution to national efforts to kick-start the South African economy and contribute to job creation interventions. This country’s attractiveness in the creative and cultural sector has, over the past few years, emerged as a key growth opportunity, and as a platform on which to position and showcase its natural beauty and diversity, using the international film and multimedia stage.
