JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s government, political parties and trade union federations have called for an immediate cease-fire and peace talks amid renewed conflict between Israel and Palestine.
South Africa has maintained that a two-state solution is the answer to the long-standing conflict over what is termed the continued illegal occupation of Palestinian land.Over 1,000 people have died since Saturday's "surprise attack" on cities such as Tel Aviv by alleged Gaza militia. Israel has since renewed its air strikes on the strip as fighting continues.
It has affirmed its solidarity with the people of Palestine, calling for the UN's resolutions and international law to be affirmed. Labour federation, Saftu, is cautioning Israel against escalating the violence, instead calling on it to stop its occupation of Palestine.
