District 10 will be distributing fans to seniors who are ages 60 years or older, a current San Antonio resident, and is in critical need of a box fan.

Seniors who live without air conditioning are susceptible to heat-related injuries. District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte and Catholic Charities are sponsors of Project Cool to help seniors ages 60 and older or people with disabilities who are in critical need of a box fan to receive a free one.

Seniors can call the United Way Helpline at 2-1-1 to request a box fan. You do not need to be a resident of District 10, as long as you are a San Antonio resident. The pick-up location for the box fan will be at the Northeast Senior Center, located at 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive on June 29 from 9:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. During the event, there will also be a program to teach safe methods to stay cool this summer.

You can also donate at St. Stephen’s Care Center, located at 2127 S Zarzamora Street. Hours of the facility are from 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Only donations of five or more 20-inch box fans are accepted. Monetary contributions towards the purchase of box fans for senior citizens are accepted. If you choose to donate this way, you can mail a check in any amount payable to “Project Cool c/o Catholic Charities” to Catholic Charities of San Antonio located at 202 W French Place.
