Experts question delays in reporting breach, slam big businesses’ poor sense of cybersecurity

Cybercrime experts are questioning the exact nature of the breach of 24 million South Africans’ personal records, when it occurred and how long it took for the data theft to be announced.

On Wednesday the SA Banking Risk Information Centre announced the Experian credit bureau had been duped into handing over the personal details of both individual clients and nearly 800,000 businesses. “Our investigations indicate that an individual in SA, purporting to represent a legitimate client, fraudulently requested services from Experian...A subscription gives you full digital access to all Times Select content.
