A ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday will celebrate the reopening of South McGregor Avenue after a two-year closure to traffic.
The closure allowed for extensive construction that has widened the roadway, rebuilt underground infrastructure and made pedestrian improvements along this important throughfare connecting Dauphin Street to Airport Boulevard.
According to a city news release, since the project started in May 2023, it has widened and resurfaced the roadway, installed a roundabout at the intersection of Dauphin Street, replaced a bridge over Eslava Creek, and added a sidewalk, a multi-use path and improved lighting along this section of McGregor Ave. Below the road’s surface, underground utilities, drainage, sewer and stormwater infrastructure have been rebuilt.The S. McGregor Ave. project represents a $25 million investment that will result in a more efficient commute for the thousands of motorists who use this corridor every day, the news release states. It also touts improvements to pedestrian safety for the many residents who live along McGregor Avenue and its surrounding neighborhoods.
