Garcia: Democrats aren’t connecting with Latino voters — just ask Laura Barberena
This year, Barberena directed a series of Spanish-language ads in Nevada for U.S. Sen.Cortez Masto pulled off a dramatic victory over Republican nominee Adam Laxalt. She did so with the considerable aid of Latino voters, who backed her by nearly a 2-1 margin, according to a CNN exit poll.
The participants included registered voters and Latinos who were eligible to vote but had chosen not to register. “We were talking to these communities about what are the most important issues to them, what does it mean to be a good citizen, what do the parties represent to you and how do they speak to Latinos,”“Throughout my travels, I was just so shocked/surprised/dismayed that when it came to Republican messaging, they all knew , almost verbatim.
