Airport officials say that working around the building is impossible and moving the structure could destroy it.
A small building with historic significance and a wavy roof could be gobbled up by the San Antonio International Airport ’s $2.5 billion expansion project. It’s likely to be demolished and replaced by a service road and pedestrian walkway, though airport officials said they might salvage and reuse elements of the building in future construction. The one-story structure was built in 1965 as a terminal for private jets.
Renderings show San Antonio airport's new terminal to open in 2028 The walkway that will likely replace the historic building would give travelers access to a new ground transportation center, with space for VIA Metropolitan Transit buses, hotel shuttles, taxis and rideshares. The facility will also include hundreds of new, desperately needed parking spaces. The airport’s existing garages hit their maximum capacities most morning, forcing people to drive to distant, uncovered lots.
