We chat with RyeLane stars davidjonsson__ and Vivian Oparah about whirlwind romances and karaoke songs, and with director RaineAM about South London being a necessary ingredient to the story. The heartwarming new romcom arrives March 31 on hulu:

Director Raine Allen-Miller has proven her comedic prowess with her feature-length debut, Rye Lane, which is coming to Hulu on March 31. The sweet film follows two brokenhearted Londoners who run into each other in the most unexpected way and proceed to have a day full of adventures that not only heal their wounds but boost their self-confidence. As they begin to open up to each other, they quickly began to realize their one day may not be enough time to spend together.

The banter flies so freely between the two of you. How much of that was scripted, or did you get to have some improv? Because it felt so natural. Vivian Oparah: You know what? I actually did karaoke at Christmas, just gone. The first time at a friend's Christmas party, and me and my friend did "Misery Business" by Paramore. I did it word for word.

I was honestly navigating her neuroses with her because I was like, "Sis, really?" But I find her super endearing, as chaotic as she is. David Jonsson: Oh, yeah. It is coming back for a third season. I love that show, and it's been so dear to me. Thankfully, I'm very busy at the moment, so I'm just riding the wave. But it should be great.

Raine Allen Miller: It's hard to say how you know something, but I think as a director, your job is to be really clear on what your vision is. Kharmel Cochrane, the casting director, and I met some really amazing people. They were all really interesting and amazing, and I'd love to meet them again, but Vivian and David stood out. On their own, individually, they stood out.
