Ryan Reynolds’ one-location thriller Buried is streaming for free this month on Fawesome. Here's everything you should know.
Many thrillers can leave you feeling trapped, or claustrophobic. This is definitely one of those, but that's because it puts one guy in a coffin and leaves him there for the entire runtime of the movie.
That's it. There's not a cacophony of wide landscape shots, or a big supporting cast of stars, it's just pitch black, a phone, a lighter, no air, and no time. Fun little Saturday night watch. Buried is streaming for free this month on Fawesome.
Directed by Rodrigo Cortés, the 2010 thriller stars Ryan Reynolds as Paul Conroy, an American truck driver working in Iraq who wakes up buried alive inside a wooden coffin. With only a few items at his disposal, Paul has to figure out who put him there, what they want, and whether anyone can find him before it’s too late.
The cast is mostly built around Reynolds, who appears on screen throughout the film, admittedly mostly from a horizontal angle. The voice cast includes Reynolds as Paul Conroy, José Luis García Pérez as Jabir, Robert Paterson as Dan Brenner, Stephen Tobolowsky as Alan Davenport, and Samantha Mathis as Linda Conroy.

Both critically and financially, which is especially impressive given how limited and tiny its budget was. Critically, it was exceedingly well received. It currently holds an 87% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus calling it “a nerve-wracking showcase for Ryan Reynolds’ talent. ” Metacritic gives it 65/100 if that's your sort of thing, too.
As for the box office, this was a slam dunk, absolutely no doubt about it. The film reportedly only cost around $2 million to make and ended up grossing about $21.3 million worldwide, meaning it made more than 10 times its production budget. You can't argue with results like that, can you? The film was also a rare dramatic showcase for Reynolds, who's obviously known better these days for his comedic output.
