Wrexham's dream of a return to the Football League is still very much alive
Wrexham co-owner and Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds expressed his delight, and bafflement, at the club going top of the National League with just one game to go of the season.
The Welsh side beat promotion rivals Stockport County 3-0 to move above them into top spot on goal difference, in a league where only the champion gains automatic promotion to the Football League. And their owner was as happy as he was confusedand two from Ollie Palmer secured a gigantic three points, which could well see them avoid the drama of the play-offs.
Stockport still have the advantage with a game in hand on Wrexham, but it’s proved an incredible turnaround for the Welsh side, who were 11 points off the top as recently as April. In the Dragons’ last 20 games in all competitions they’ve won 16 and lost just one.If they fail to land first place, Wrexham will have to compete for a return to the EFL via the play-offs, a scenario which seems to have confused Canadian owner Reynolds.“But @Wrexham_AFC supporters did their part.
