Ryan Reynolds has announced that a new Deadpool project is in the works for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at Fanatics Fest 2026, he hinted at exploring lesser-known comic storylines and suggested the Merc with a Mouth might serve in a supporting role moving forward, echoing earlier remarks about needing a break after the franchise's massive success with "Deadpool & Wolverine." The film's format-whether a solo sequel or an ensemble piece-remains uncertain, but reports indicate it could feature several X-Men characters. Meanwhile, rumors swirl about a cameo in "Avengers: Doomsday," and Reynolds has multiple non-Marvel projects on the horizon.

Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another Deadpool film is in development, though he has not specified whether it will be a direct " Deadpool 4" or a different format.

Speaking at Fanatics Fest 2026, Reynolds discussed the character's future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, noting that there are "deep cuts" from the comics that have yet to be adapted. This follows earlier statements from late 2024 where Reynolds expressed a need to step back after "Deadpool & Wolverine" because such projects "swallow life whole.

" He has since indicated a desire for Deadpool to appear more as a supporting or ensemble character in future projects, a sentiment he reiterated in April. Reports from May 2025 suggested the untitled project would include three or four X-Men characters, reminiscent of the planned X-Force film from the pre-Disney Fox era. The Deadpool franchise began with the 2016 film, followed by a sequel in 2018 and the multiverse-hopping "Deadpool & Wolverine" in 2024.

That film was both a critical and commercial triumph, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide. While the next Deadpool film's exact nature remains unclear, rumors also persist about a potential appearance in "Avengers: Doomsday" later this year. Outside of the Marvel sphere, Reynolds will next appear in the Apple TV+ film "Mayday" opposite Kenneth Branagh, with "Animal Friends" and "Eloise" slated for 2027.

The character, created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, is a mutant mercenary known for his humor and fourth-wall-breaking antics, and has been affiliated with teams like X-Force and the Avengers in the comics
