of Ohio State and Penn State is on the table to be picked here and to be brought up for discussion. But if you’re gonna bring somebody up, you better be able to bring up a legitimate reason for why, because the point of the matter is, we gotta get a consensus. on the people that are kind leading them. So yeah, I think this is a really big week for Jim Knowles because I think if Penn State moves the ball really well offensively, we’re going to have some questions about what is happening from the top down at Ohio State. And obviously on the defensive side of the ball, I know there’s the whole Larry Johnson thing, but that starts with Jim Knowles.
Zin Mahoski, what does that mean if he has to play against Nebraska? We’re just not doing that. So it’s, it’s so out of sight, out of mind that this very specific thing that they desperately needed to not happen made this possible. And so that’s why when you went, I don’t know if a one game can change that. That’s what I was thinking in my head with Judson. Is that if the offensive line comes out here and Will Howard isn’t under duress, I think that’s just as much about.
I don’t know what you hang your hat on if you’re Justin Fry. Like at the end of the year, if somebody puts you in a room and says, argue for yourself, tell us why you deserve to have your job. Tell us what you have done here that makes you think that you should stay here. What, if the development’s not happening and the recruiting’s also not happening, then I don’t know what you, what you, what you have to stand on.

When’s it going to happen? When is that game coming?I I approach this list in a way of like, you should be, the reason why you’re on this list is because you should be doing something and you’re not.
because Drew Aller just gets turnover happy and all of sudden Penn State just shoots themselves in the foot and that’s how the game goes. The Justin Fry experiment, if you want to call it that, the Justin Fry era would be over to me at that point. I’m not saying they’re going to fire him after the Penn State game, but I do think that there’s no coming back from that. I do think that whoever you plug in, whatever the answer is, there’s no coming back from it.
the status report of Justin Fry after the Iowa game, think we were stock up. I don’t know how you’re not at that point because the offensive line got better over the course of 2023. And then when you go into 24, they played better.Yeah, but like it’s not like the stock was at a, yeah, but the stock was at negative 10 when the season started. So stock up can literally be, it’s at five now. That’s not a high stock.
That now you have a third stringer in here who showed up in June, who was already at a disadvantage given the situation he’s in, and you gave him no chance of succeeding. So that’s where the bar was coming in the 2024. So yeah, stock up. But it’s like going from an F to a D. It’s still not going to be able to make you eligible to play sports in high school. So is it really that high? So then you lose your left tackle who’s playing at a level where quite frankly, I think Joshua Simmons.
Ohio State’s offensive line is kind of struggling. and like, like the, D you know, we’ll see what happens with Kyle McCord, but Penn state now has the quarterback. Well, this year’s a very similar to me storyline than what we had last year. Like the line is exactly the same.
Right, it becomes a conversation about expectations. And on the Ohio state side of things, the expectations are so much higher, it seems like, than they are on the Penn State side of things. Penn State just needs to make the playoff, because it’s 12 teams now. However they do that, they just need to make it. So if they lose this game on Saturday, nothing changes.
And there is that element of wanting to beat the school who overlooked you your entire school, your entire life, right? But also, what’s your hours best game right now? If you play well against a good defense or defense at least with a lot of NFL players, that’s a game that you put yourself out there. And I think with Will Howard, Will.Exactly. We could leave this game with Will Howard going, wow, Will Howard played pretty well. He’s probably a day two pick. We could leave this game from Drew Aller going, is he a top 10 draft pick? Or we could leave this game for Drew Aller going, my goodness, he doesn’t have it. This guy’s just a fine college quarterback.
No, they didn’t. They gave him pay cut and made him change some things and they worked. They won three national champions. Now, granted, they also brought in a man by the name of Connor Stallions who decided to go attend other football games. But still, the point of matter is Michigan put their money where their mouth is by saying what you’ve been doing isn’t enough. We’re going to give you a pay cut and make you and change some things in your contract. Penn State hasn’t done that.

If Ryan Day loses, it’s fundamentally going to change the coach he is right now. so if he, this is not, in years past, you are correct, Andrew. And sure, there are probably gonna be people saying that. I just don’t think they’re going to be correct this year because there is, this is the first Penn State game Ryan Day is playing in where it’s like, you better win this game, Like seriously, you can’t mess around.
I mean, this feels like, like I said, a breaking point. This feels like a fork in the road where things can go really, really, really poorly or really, really well. And this would be the first step, the biggest step in things going really, really poorly down the stretch.I think to another thing, what you were saying there of just, you know, th there are going to be people who say, well, it’s just a win against Jane Franklin. It gets just to win against Penn state. And I agree.
