Ryan Day addresses Ohio State’s special team struggles: “We need to hold each other accountable”

The Buckeyes won 37-17.special team unit had some major blunders last season that contributed to why it lost its last two games and now it’s spilling over into this year.

“I just asked what happened the ball slipped,” Day said. “I was just as surprised as anybody. That can’t happen again.” There hasn’t been much return on that unit in a way that has justified it, instead leading to questions of why things haven’t been better. It’s a clear problem that Day acknowledges needs to be fixed. Against Terrapin it led to points for the opponent. Last season it was on a list of reasons why Ohio State lost to Michigan and Georgia.

“We want all of our detail to be better, across the board. I can tell you we work really hard on special teams, the coaching detail is there. We need to hold each other accountable, and it starts with me. I gotta help coach it better, hod the coaches accountable and hold the players accountable.”
