“She was a great mom. She was a staunch advocate for her family,” said the son of Ruth Whitfield, one of the victims of the Buffalo supermarket mass shooting. “She died doing what she did every day, which was caring for her family.”

Mrs. Whitfield stopped at Tops on her way home from visiting her husband, who lives in a nursing home, Mr. Whitfield said.
