Breaking: Unable to reach an agreement on a new contract, Rutgers University educators to strike at 9 a.m. on Monday. Details:
The strike will be the first staged by educators, researchers and clinicians in the school's 257-year history.
Though negotiations had made some recent headway, Rutgers AAUP-AFT President Rebecca Givan said in a statement the unions and management remain far apart on many core issues. "We intend for this new contract to be transformative, especially for our lowest-paid and most vulnerable members," Givan said."But our proposals to raise graduate workers and adjunct faculty up to a living wage and establish meaningful job security for adjuncts are exactly the ones that the administration has resisted most."Rutgers University is one of the nation’s premier institutions of higher learning.
