Rutgers freshman star Kiyomi McMiller was not in the lineup for the Scarlet Knights women’s basketball team for the second consecutive game amid speculation about her future with the program. McMiller was suspended from Saturday’s game against No. 4 USC due to a “coach’s decision,” and the former five-star recruit posted to social media an apology to her fans before that contest.
The Rutgers guard was then kept off the court on Wednesday against Minnesota despite not appearing on the team’s availability report as out or questionable. Rutgers coach Coquese Washington said that “the decision for McMiller not to play was a game time decision and was made after the availability report was submitted.” McMiller has quickly become a star for the Scarlet Knights, averaging 19.9 points per game — second most in the Big Ten — and leads the team in total assists with 45. “I would like to apologize to my fans,” she wrote over the weekend. “I will not be playing in today’s game vs. USC, which is #4 in the country. This decision was made by my Head Coach Coquese Washington.
