, a longtime athletics official currently serving as the Deputy Athletic Director of Facilities, Capital Projects and Internal Operations, has been named the school’s acting athletic director,at the start of next month. He will take over as acting AD on Saturday, July 19, according to Tate. Entering his 24th year with Rutgers athletics, where he has worked primarily on the facilities side, Colagiovanni has been the deputy athletic director for facilities, capital projects and internal operations since 2016 after previously serving as an associate athletic director of facilities and events and assistant athletic director of operations for Olympic sports.Rutgers is “pioneering the new phase of what athletic directors will look like,” Turnkey founder, CEO and Chairman Len Perna. “Rutgers is thinking about this in a really refreshing new way, and is pioneering a new profile and a new structure inside the department of athletics.” Perna said he will work with the university to place an experienced team around whoever gets the job, and that is likely to include a strong No. 2 who has a background running a successful athletic department. “We do that not just for Rutgers but for every one of these schools,” Perna said. “When you’re thinking about hiring the top position, you’re also looking very carefully at who we currently have in the department of athletics, where they can help us, do we move them around to different positions, how do we utilize the talent we already have and who do we add from the outside underneath this director of athletics to make sure we have all the bases covered and have a really strong team. “No one person can do it. The scale of this is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It never stops.
