A Rutgers freshman basketball player is listed as questionable for the upcoming game against Wisconsin due to illness.
A Rutgers freshman was listed as questionable on the mandatory pregame availability report the team filed to the Big Ten ahead of a crucial home matchup with Wisconsin. If he is unable to play, it would mark the second consecutive contest Harper has missed due to illness, according to head coach Steve Pikiell, marking the first time he missed a game in his young college career. Pikiell said following the contest that he expected Harper to be available for Monday’s meeting with the Badgers.
“He was sick,” Pikiell said. “It was a game-time decision. When a guy feels good, you just never know where it was. He was just getting some sleep and trying to play. ... He’s been a little under the weather and he hadn’t practiced in a few days. Hoping that he gets better real quickly here.” Harper was not listed on the pregame availability report prior to Thursday’s game, but he was wearing street clothes when he emerged from the visiting locker room at Assembly Hall. His designation was changed to questionable on the report after NJ Advance Media reported he would miss the contest.Through 13 games, Harper is averaging 22.8 points (fourth nationally) on 52.5% shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 34.3 minutes per game. The five-star phenom’s All-American form was punctuated last Monday when he became the first Scarlet Knights in nearly 42 years (Roy Hinson, 1982) to notch a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in a romp of Columbia in Piscataway
