Ryan Gosling will return as secret CIA operative Six in a sequel to “The Gray Man,” Netflix announced. Like the original the film will be directed by Cleveland natives Joe and Anthony Russo.
“One of the things that we discovered during the four movies we made in the MCU is that Joe and I love serialized storytelling,” Anthony Russo told cleveland.com prior to the release of “The Gray Man.” “This movie has a really large ensemble, wonderful characters, wonderful actors. We feel like it’s the kind of narrative where moving forward we can follow any one or any group of those characters, either into the future or into the past. We’re very excited about other iterations of this story.
Indeed, that is the plan. Netflix also announced it is teaming up with the Russo’s production company AGBO on a “The Gray Man” spin-off being developed by “Deadpool” writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. It isn’t known yet which character the project will focus on, but there are a number of possibilities from the first film to choose from including those played by Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton and Alfre Woodard.
The series tells the stories of the Sierras, a group of anonymous, but highly skilled assassins who work in the shadows for the CIA. In its review of the initial outing,called it “a non-stop thrill ride full of intense fight scenes, jaw-dropping stunts and quippy one-liners.” It isn’t known when “The Gray Man” sequel or spin-off will arrive on the streaming service. The Russo Brothers’ next project is “The Electric State,” a sci-fi film starring “Stranger Things” actress Millie Bobby Brown that will be made for Netflix.
