Without revealing too much, many of the details seeded in RussianDoll's first season flower wonderfully in its second.

In that pre-pandemic world, plodding through purgatory until you truly comprehend your moral obligation to safeguard a stranger’s life seemed like an interesting thought experiment.
When we rejoin Nadia Vulvokov , three years and approximately 51 weeks have passed since her seemingly inescapable 36th birthday. Maxine wants to throw Nadia another party to mark her milestone 40th, but Nadia has a new birthday tradition: spending it with Alan , on guard for any disruptions to the timeline. Leaving her adopted mother Ruth at Lenox Hill Hospital after a minor car accident, Nadia boards a downtown train…and finds herself instantly transported to 1982.
A key piece of Nadia’s costume is a gold krugerrand she wears as a pendant. In the show’s first season, we learned that it is the last of 150 that her maternal grandparents, Holocaust survivors, bought as a fascist regime-proof nest egg. The coins were supposed to be used for Nadia’s college fund, until her mentally ill mother Lenora spent them all.
