Russian and Syrian jets have conducted several air strikes against Syrian rebels who have seized control of the country's second-largest city, Aleppo. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad pledged retaliation a counterattack against the rebels, labeling them as terrorists. The offensive, led by jihadi group Hayat Tahrir al Sham, has also reportedly advanced into the city of Hama. Financial markets saw a dip in gold prices amid heightened risk aversion.

Russian and Syrian jets have carried out a series of air strikes on Syrian rebels who are advancing through the country after seizing its second-largest city, per Reuters Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has vowedto strike back against the rebels, whom he described as terrorists. The rebels, led by jihadi group Hayat Tahrir al Sham, took over most of Aleppo in a shock offensive on Saturday. They claim to have also entered the city of Hama.
