Live updates: Biden meets Ukrainian ministers in Poland; Russia focuses on eastern front
After nearly two weeks out of the public eye in the middle of a war, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was shown in an official video of a Defense Ministry meeting Saturday, a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mocked his disappearance.
He was shown reading a speech to the group of assembled officials, including the commander of Russia’s armed forces, Gen. Valery Gerasimov. With Russia’s war against Ukraine going worse than expected, Zelensky on Friday mocked Shoigu’s absence as he boasted that Ukraine had dealt “powerful blows” to Russia’s military, inflicting substantial losses.
