But the redlines really are a joke, a chimera, a paper tiger with no claws. Sadly, many of the timid Western leaders are bamboozled by these threats. CIA head Bill Burns suggested that at the beginning of Putin’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, both spy agencies believed that awas a distinct possibility, and both agencies, no doubt with others, worked furiously in the shadows as one would expect, to make sure this global catastrophe was avoided.
Though it is believed Putin still has a strong hold on power, this hold is far from stable. If he cannot control his spy agencies – whence the former KGB man came – the ice for him will be getting thinner under his feet, in an increasingly warm Kremlin. So, what should Sir Keir Starmer and President Joe Biden consider in Washington and take from this extraordinary briefing from the world’s premier spy agencies?
