Kremlin leader issues latest nuclear threat in wide-ranging TV interview days before presidential election
Vladimir Putin said he does not think that the world is heading for nuclear war but that Russia’s nuclear forces are in full readiness The Russian President said he hoped the US would refrain from actions that could trigger a nuclear conflict.
The 71-year-old said he did not think the world was heading into a nuclear war but that the Kremlin’s nuclear forces were in full readiness and “from the military-technical viewpoint, we’re prepared”. Russia and the US are the largest nuclear powers, with more than 90 per cent of the world’s atomic weapons. Russia has the world’s biggest stockpile of nuclear warheads at 5,580, according to the Federation of American Scientists.
