Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh announced on his show that he has “advanced lung cancer,' saying that he will leave his show for treatment but plans to return.
“This day has been one of the most difficult days in recent memory for me because I’ve known this moment was coming,” he said.
Limbaugh said he’s had the diagnosis confirmed twice. He originally felt shortness of breath on Jan. 12, which prompted him to seek medical help. Limbaugh is a talk radio pioneer who helped create the right-wing radio phenomenon and remains one of the most powerful figures in conservative politics. His show first aired in 1988 and now reaches an estimated 27 million people each week.
